FAQS

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK?
I take on a limited number of sessions each month so I can provide a high level of service. In busier seasons (such as fall) be sure to book at least 3 weeks in advance to ensure I have a spot for you. However, I always do my best to accommodate last minute requests.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME OF DAY FOR A SESSION?
My go-to light happens approximately 2 hours before sunset. You may have heard it referred to as"golden hour" but I've always liked to call it "magical lighting". Early mornings and late afternoon produce the most flattering light, when the sun is lower on the horizon. Many people think a bright sunny day is the best case scenario for photographs—but that isn't the case. The higher the sun is in the sky (think "high noon") the harsher the light will be. A cloudless sky also means less diffusion (aka softer) light. That all being said, I can confidently produce well lit images in any kind of light! My portfolio contains images shot under many conditions, including midday sun.
WHEN IS PAYMENT DUE?
The $190 session fee for Studio Sessions session acts as a retainer to hold your session date and time. All artwork is purchased separately at your viewing appointment approximately 2 weeks following your session.
Natural Light Lifestyle Sessions All Inclusive Packages requires 20% retainer fee of the total package amount to hold your day and time as well. This is due at the time of booking. The remaining balance is due immediately following the session. Additional prints/ digital images can be purchased after the session as well.

Yes! I don't charge extra for anyone who wants to be in some of the photos with you, as long as they're comfortable/ well behaved around horses. (this only applies to the middle and top collections)
WHAT IF THE WEATHER ISN'T IDEAL?
No worries! I keep an eye on the forecast and if there is significant chance of rain/ wind storm etc we will reschedule.
CAN I GET THE DIGITAL FILES?
Yes! Lifestyle package sessions all come with digital images for social media sharing. For a la carte or studio sessions each print/ canvas / album purchased comes with the matching digital file for social media sharing as well. I focus on providing you with a beautiful finished artwork, while also including the digital for you to share on social media. Delivery of digital images will be through a private online gallery.

WHEN WILL I SEE THE PHOTOS AFTER THE SESSION?
For Studio Sessions In Person: approximately 2-3 weeks weeks after your session, we will meet at a mutually decided upon location (I usually come to the client's home) for the grand "reveal" of the photos! You will be presented with a slideshow of your best images. From there, we will go through each image individually, and I will offer guidance and suggestions if you need help deciding. Please have all decision makers present, as this is the time to place your order. Payment in full is due at this time. I will then process your order and a couple weeks later your art will be delivered to your door.
There is also the option to view the images from your studio session via an online gallery, where you will select the images you would like to be created into the final artwork. Payment in full is due at this time.
Lifestyle sessions will be delivered up to 4 weeks following your session via online gallery. You will be able to order additional prints using this gallery, it will be active for 2 weeks following your session. Please download/ order during this time-frame, a $100 archiving fee will be required to reactivate the gallery.
For more information, please refer to the INFO section, under SESSION.
WHAT FACILITY DO I NEED FOR A STUDIO SHOOT?
An arena or large barn aisle is required.
DO YOU HAVE A MINIMUM ORDER REQUIREMENT? WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
No! At the reveal/ordering of your images, the choice of what you purchase is completely up to you. I am not a used car salesperson and will never pressure you. You only buy what you love.
For payment, I accept cash, credit card, and e-transfer.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MY HORSE?
Have your horse looking show-ring ready—pull that mane (if necessary) whiten those socks, and use some good ol' elbow grease on that coat. Use Showsheen with caution if you plan on climbing on bareback!
Make sure your tack is spotless and your bit is polished. Have a nice halter and lead in addition to a bridle on hand. It's up to you if you'd like your horse in full tack, or with simply a bridle/halter. If you're unsure have your saddle/any accessories ready to go. We can do multiple "looks!"
In addition to having him look sparkly, make sure to take care of his mind prior to the session. Work him earlier in the day (ride or lunge) if he tends to have a lot of energy. If you lunge, throw in lots of transitions and get him listening, this will make our lives easier once he gets in front of the camera. You can also hand walk him around to the spots on the farm you may want to have photos, get him used to unfamiliar locations if he's the spooky type.
For Studio & Black Background:
Either have your horse in a nice halter or bridle with the reins taken off and a lead rope instead. If your horse will stand without a halter or bridle, we can do that as well! If he won't, a rope halter can be edited out for that natural look.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? SHOULD I GET PROFESSIONAL HAIR AND MAKEUP?
Number 1 rule is make sure you're comfortable and feel good in the clothes you choose. It doesn't matter how stylist your outfit is, if you feel awkward in it! You can bring multiple outfits for different looks i.e riding clothes and "normal" clothes. Accessories can add interest (necklaces, scarves etc). Simple and classic always wins. Try and choose colours that compliment your horse.
If you normally wear makeup, having it done professionally can make the day feel extra special. But don't feel pressured to have your face "all done up" if you don't feel it's "you".
DO YOU ONLY DO HORSE PHOTOGRAPHY?
Nope! I also shoot weddings, family portraits and dogs. A full canine session works the same as an equestrian session, either studio or lifestyle.

DO YOU DO "BLACK BACKGROUND" NATURAL LIGHT PHOTOS?
Yes! These can be done during the lifestyle session. They only require a barn doorway. They are included in my middle and top collection. As a stand alone session, they can be purchased for $255+hst, which includes 2 edited images for social media.
CAN I SEE YOUR HST NUMBER?
Yes, it's 76786 1719 RT0001
